LAST EDITED ON Aug-06-08 AT 06:21 PM (CST)I attended the Allen County Fair/Rodeo on Tuesday night. There was a pretty good crowd packed into the arena on what was a hot muggy night. I want to be the first to say I was happy that the fair returned to riverside park. The show buildings looked great. The grand stands were fixed. "Back in the Saddle Again" was a fitting theme. The floods took a toll on the area but never shattered the spirit of young and old alike.
My family and I viewed the 4-H animals, baby barnyard, and had a bite to eat. There is still the void of no carnival/midway. So with little or no other events to attend we headed to the rodeo. Thirty minutes after the show started something concerned me. The city of Iola was spraying for mosquito's a matter of yards behind us on Brunner Street. Normally not too big of a deal, right?
The sound of the machine interrupted the show. The smell was not the least bit desirable. There also were a lot of people with open beverages, snacks and candy. Is this healthy to be consumed? There were quite a few infants and young children sipping on bottles and snacking away. I may be over reacting at this point. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
Did the city of Iola make a poor call by allowing this? Was it the mistake of one individual? Was it a mistake at all. I might be concerned for no reason. I just want to know if this was a safe practice.
